Clomid which goes by the chemical name of clomiphene citrate has been around since the 1970s. This anti estrogen medication is approved by the FDA as an infertility drug. Gynaecologists prescribe Clomid when treating women with infertility problems.
Women undergoing in vitro fertilisation or IVF are also prescribed Clomid.
Clomid helps to increase the gonadotropin hormone levels in women in order to stimulate a higher production of eggs which increases their chances of conception. Clomid plays a vital role in regulating both estrogen and testosterone levels in individuals.
In the bodybuilding community, Clomid is important to male bodybuilders because of its anti estrogen properties. Clomiphene citrate will prevent aromatization from occurring which limits the level of estrogen in the body.
Clomid is a recommended post-cycle therapy (PCT) drug. Bodybuilders make use of Clomid when they are undergoing PCT at the end of using androgenic-anabolic steroid(s).
Many androgenic-anabolic steroids are derivatives of the male sex hormone (testosterone). This sex hormone and it’s derivatives are known to convert during aromatization to estrogen.
When the estrogen levels in a male bodybuilder is exceedingly high, such a bodybuilder will be exposed to many feminization health implications. Gynecomastia is the most common of the feminization effects of high levels of estrogen in male bodybuilders. Another effect is water retention which can ruin any skeletal muscle gain that bodybuilders have amassed during their steroid use and bodybuilding training program.
High concentrations of estrogen is indeed counterproductive to the bodybuilding efforts of male bodybuilders. Excessive estrogen can also lead to weight gain and an increase in body fat. In addition to this, high levels of estrogen can adversely affect libido in male bodybuilders.
While Clomid is used by male bodybuilders during a steroid cycle or in PCT, you are advised to consult your personal trainer or physician before using this oral anti estrogen medication.
- Promotes Gonadotropin Release: Clomid will promote an increase in the gonadotropin hormones released into the body. With high gonadotropin levels, the testicles of male bodybuilders will be able to resume the production and release of endogenous testosterone hormones.
- Lowers High concentration of Estrogen: Clomid is an anti estrogen that is used in post-cycle therapy to lower the high concentration of estrogen in male bodybuilders. Male bodybuilders seeking to build muscle mass would often use synthetic testosterone or derivatives of testosterone. These anabolic steroids usually have a high estrogen conversion rate. Clomid is used to reduce the volume of estrogen in the body while also encouraging the release of gonadotropin hormones to normalise testosterone production.
- Combats Feminization: Clomid will combat the feminization effects of high estrogen levels in male bodybuilders. High volumes of estrogen in male bodybuilders can result in different adverse effects, such as; the enlargement of breasts (a condition known as gynecomastia), the shrinking of testicles, loss of libido, water retention, increased body fat, and excessive weight gain. Using Clomid during PCT will go a long way in reducing estrogen levels and preventing an escalation of feminization side effects.
